After Murphy's battery of tests last week (sorry little buddy), the results are in.
We have a little good news, but mostly bad.

Apparently the initial UTI did inflate the values some since they are slightly (very slight) better now than in May. But they still show the kidneys 70-75% gone.
What I consider good news is they said "whatever you are doing, keep it up". We are doing nothing but making him happy.
I refuse to force the subcu hydration on him because he gets so stressed and upset. In fact he is now so terrified of needles, when we took him to the vet last Friday for the urine culture, they couldn't get him to hold still to draw the urine and had to sedate him and keep him for a few hours.
And when he had to go back for a blood draw this Friday (I wish they had done this when he was sedated), his blood pressure was through the roof so he bled horribly after the stick and has a huge hematoma on his neck.
So this reaffirms our decision to make his life as comfortable as possible and not stress him out with "treatment". I have often wondered about this approach with humans, but that is a different topic for a different day.
So we are now looking at probably 2-3 months - totally a guess on everyone's part, but that is 3-4 more months than they said in May. We're gonna make it the best time he has ever had.

Poor little guy. The part about him getting high bp when he saw the needle was heartbreaking. I hope he can hang in there.
I'll send good thoughts your way that he has many more happy months and passes peacefully in his sleep.
