I just finished a discussion with my niece who is 20something and very involved in the upcoming election. It was interesting to hear the perspective of the younger generation - eeek that makes me the older generation. [sigh]
Anyway, she commented on how politics and voting in the upcoming election brings out the nasty in the most unsuspecting people. I had to agree. I've run into some seemingly calm people who get biligerant at the sight of my Obama t-shirt. I also have encountered the opposite which is refreshing.
I've even encountered this Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde switch in family members and friends. I think this is so sad. Our friends and family are entitled to their own opinions, just as we are. We have to stop the divisive behavior. Make love, not war.

I'd like to hear some research on the effects of negative campaigning and why we react so strongly to candidates and political parties. It's really weird.
On the positive side, I greatly appreciate your posts on the election and the tone which they convey.
You had me right up until that 'make love, not war' comment.
It's interesting you mention the belligerant reactions to your Obama T-shirt. I'd say the reaction to Governor Palin probably makes those reactions pale by comparison.
And the 'make love' comment trivialized an important topic, in my opinion.
I'm a Reagan Conservative and what I tell people is - do the research, listen to what people are saying, and then vote your conscience. Anything else is an insult to the process.

Good point Paul. I too would like to read such a research article.
cj: I've never figured out what "you had me until" means. Other people have used that in defending their opinion.
I don't ask visitors to defend their opinion - we are all entitled to one. I only ask that we treat each other with respect here.
