First of all, my husband watched the debate with me tonight. Keep in mind he has never shown any interest in politics, thinks it is a waste and voting is a total waste of time. He has consistently teased me about my interest in Obama and this year's election.
He is not a stupid person. In fact, when it comes to history and government - he is like a freakin' encyclopedia. I am always asking him questions.
During the debate he made interesting observations and after it was over made this comment:
"McCain comes across rattled and old. Your boy comes across a little stuck-up - but as one of the most intelligent people I have ever seen run for President."
He then inquired as to how old he was and we discussed JFK and the age situation.
I then made the observation that it is ironic that someone has knowledgeable as he is doesn't vote and me who knows a fraction of what he does about history and the process does vote.
He then said (hold on to your hat) - "I think I might have to vote in this election."
When I picked myself up off the floor I reminded him he only had about a week to register. I directed him to the web site where you can do that online, but he (being the paranoid guy he is) prefers to do that in person. They might actually want his SS# and birth date.
I have been considering doing some phone banking for this election but let me say I have conquered the biggest challenge already.
Trying to remain calm because if I get all giddy on him, he'll back off - he is kind of like a wild animal that way - I asked what caused him to want to vote this time.
His response? "It is the first time I've seen someone that actually comes across like they know what the hell they are doing and can maybe fix this mess."
Mark one more for Obama.
