How much light do you need?

There is an ugly brassy gold pool table light above our pool table. It has been on our list to replace since we moved in. But I want something unusual and not stereotypical billiardish (is that a word?).

So in shopping around for indoor lighting that doesn’t require me to sell a kidney but still provide unique style – the pickins’ are slim.

There are recessed lights around the perimeter of the room and above the bar already. So my question is – how much light do you need to play pool? Would a single bulb pendant light not work?

Anyone?
