Where's the mama?

Tonight when I got home, I pulled into the garage and when I got out of the car, I noticed a baby bunny at the entrance. Apparently it had been nestled up against the garage door trying to get out of the wind. I didn't notice it when I left just an hour or so prior.

At first I couldn't tell if it was even alive as it was sitting so still. He was about as long as my hand and furry brown. Such a true sign of spring on this 80+ day.

I put on some gloves and picked it up - it was so scared.

I looked around for the mama or other babies, but no luck. So I took it over under a bush at the front of the house (our dogs are in the backyard). The garage door was a foot from the back gate. I love Bear, but I know what he would do if given the chance.

I nestled him in where the wind wouldn't get him and left. I didn't want too much human smell on him so if the mama came back (and I was praying she would), she wouldn't reject the little fellar.

About two hours later I went out and looked and he was gone.

I told David that the mama must have came and got him.

His reply?

"or the hawk".

Asshole.
