One of my favorite things to do in the warmer months of the year is to visit farmers markets. I love the fresh taste and superior variety that you can find in rows of heirloom tomatoes, purple potatoes, and seedless watermelons.
One of the things I hate anytime of the year is getting up early. I am not a morning person. So therefore getting up at the crack of dawn to go enjoy the variety of tastes usually does not win out.
I have found a great compromise. Plus it will force us to eat more vegetables and fruits - always a plus.
We joined a CSA (community supported agriculture). I mailed the check this week so there is no turning back now.
For what works out to be about $19 a week for 25 weeks, we will get a half bushel of whatever is in harvest each week. It will be a variety and we'll be able to tell from these lists what is typical for the different seasons.
Fresh farm produce each week - $19.00
Supporting local farmers - good for the soul.
Getting to sleep in on Saturday mornings - priceless!
