Musical Memory Lane

Melissa at Musings and Mutterings shared this musical meme and since it is retro, of course I had to do it.

For each year you were in high school, you look at songs on the Billboard charts and list your favorite at the time, actual best, worst, zeitgeist, and WTF. So let's jump in the time machine and head back to...

1980...

The Rose » Bette Midler - My favorite and let' s face it any 14-15 year old female that watched the movie. "some say love...." I had the album (hee hee - album) and knew every word to every song.

Call Me » Blondie - This was #1 for the year and I get why. It was catchy and clear what she wanted.

Refugee » Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Being #100 for the entire year is not bad and this is a good song.

You May Be Right » Billy Joel - As a freshman in high school, this was my spirit of the time song - "you may be right, I might be crazy, but it just might be a lunatic you're lookin for"

Tusk » Fleetwood Mac - This is definitely WTF. I never got the song or the video.

1981...

The Winner Takes It All » Abba - Truly one of my all time favorite songs, still.

Bette Davis Eyes » Kim Carnes - There is no secret as to why this was #1 for the year. It had the mood, the beat, and those eyes.

Time Is Time » Andy Gibb - Okay being #100 might be bad because I've never heard of this one.

Don't Stand So Close To Me » Police - As sophmores, we were so cool. Many of us were getting our license, at the very least our permits. We were too cool for you to stand close to us.

Whip It » Devo - WTF is right. There was a mutated version we sang that went "Whip it, into shape, go for it, masterbate". Made more sense.

1982...

I Love Rock N' Roll » Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - And I did.

Physical » Olivia Newton-John - One of those songs that just gets stuck in your head.

Edge Of Seventeen » Stevie Nicks - Perfect example of bad weed.

Jack And Diane » John Cougar - Definitely the spirit of the times. Keep in mind I went to Seymour High School - the same school as John "cougar" Mellencamp.

Get Down On It » Kool & The Gang - On what?

1983...

Total Eclipse Of The Heart » Bonnie Tyler - What a voice - every girl wished she could growl like that.

Every Breath You Take » Police - Still in my top 100.

Fall In Love With Me » Earth, Wind & Fire - Huh?

Mickey » Toni Basil - Senior year - we're getting the hell out. Why? Because "we're so fine".

Pass The Dutchie » Musical Youth - Need I say anything?

That was fun. Now I need to update my Ipod.
