Yummy

We ventured to a new restaurant yesterday. I've been wanting to try it but as all new restaurants are, especially those that are any good, it has been a busy place. But we found ourselves looking to eat a midday meal around 4pm due to sleeping late, thus eating a late breakfast (no one is complaining about either).

So off to Mojito's Tapas Bar.

We started with empanadas and sweet potato fries. I forgot to take photos of the first round (sorry). The empanadas were very good, not too spicy, not too sweet. Wonderful flaky crust.

The sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had (including my own). They were crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and came with a shot glass of warm smokey honey. That stuff was like crack.

Next came the braised short rib and chicken skewer. I remembered pictures this time.

Beautifully plated tender and sweet braised short rib on a pile of garlic mashed potatoes. This was very good, but just one rib. I realize it is tapas, but this baby was $11.99. Most of the other items were anywhere from $3.99 to $7.99. We really expected more for the money.

The chicken was grilled with a saffron garlic butter. Very good and a bit spicy. It was really good dipped into the smokey honey we had left over from the sweet potato fries. I'm telling you - crack!

So for dessert we ordered churros. So traditional and so so good.

They are served with a cup of warm dark chocolate topped with real whipped cream. Warm and crunchy Spanish doughnuts dipped in dark delicious chocolate with a hint of coffee taste. Perfect!

For all locals, I strongly recommend it. We had five tapas dishes and two sodas and it was $48.00 including tax and tip. Not bad considering the ribs were a fourth of that. I would order everything again except the ribs, only because of the poor value. The taste was great.

I only regret not ordering a mojito but a sunny Sunday afternoon didn't seem the right setting. Next time.
