The most unpredictable thing occurred last weekend. My husband suggested we move.
"W..wh...what?"
"W..wh...why?'
And more importantly, "why now?" (Especially considering the cash and labor we just dropped into the back yard.)
We moved into our brand new home in 2000 at the same time we got married. We chose the location based on where he and I worked at the time (me north, he south) and it was about a 30 minute drive for both of us.
Well shortly after we moved in, he changed jobs that makes his drive 45 mins. But he works at home at least once a week so he never complained.
Then over two years ago I changed jobs to work south as well. We discussed it and even looked at some homes, but decided we liked our house, not necessarily where we lived, but we liked the house and didn't like the other options within our price range within Louisville.
You see we have a lot of space - more space than 2 people really need - but it is full and used.
But apparently between the drive and the clutter-f*ck, white trash, neighbors parking their old travel trailer in their driveway and spreading their crap all over the front of the house - he is over it.
Now I'll be honest. The end result of a new house which equals new decorating projects doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. It is the in between chaos that I do not look forward to.
- First off, my house must be cleaned thoroughly and stay that way indefinitely - yeah right.
- Dogs. Do you know what to do with three dogs while the house is being shown?
- Packing. God I hate packing. The only good thing is my mother used to pack for Mayflower - she is an organization queen and I will damn well be tapping that resource.
We have decided that since it is such a seller's market - we are not placing a bid on a home until our house is sold. I don't want my hopes high only to fall splat. In just the five days we have been internet searching and driving around - I have no less than 10 that I would be completely happy with, so I don't think there is a hurry.
We are going to a couple Open Houses this weekend to begin to check off what we like, don't like, etc.
I like touring other people's homes - how sick is that? It is like being a voyeur with permission.

It's been a while since this was an issue, but I think we kept the dogs in kennels, outside or in the garage depending on weather. There are doggy day cares that are fairly cheap- the one I have thought about using is 7 bucks a day.
Touring other people's homes isn't sick. I enjoy it because I'm looking for ideas to copy.
Good luck with the move.
New (different) house shopping is such fun! I am sooo envious.
I must admit, I sometimes go to open houses when I'm not in the market. Like i-wonder, I'm looking for ideas (or snooping, you choose).
Good luck!
